Matt grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and Southern California, with a brief stopover in Nashville, before his family settled in Texas in 1991. He attended Southwest Texas State University from 1995 to 1999, earning an undergraduate degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology.
He began a career in law enforcement in 1999, successfully completing CAPCO Class #22, graduating in the top 5% of his class and earning the “Top Gun” award for marksmanship. Matt served as a full-time police officer and then as a deputy from 2000-2005. He left full-time law enforcement in 2005 but maintained his state license as a commissioned reserve officer until 2019.
In 2006 Matt was accepted to the Master of Business Administration program at Texas State University and attended graduate school while working full-time. He completed the 51-credit-hour MBA program in just over two years, graduating with a 3.65 GPA and also studying abroad in Santiago, Chile.
Matt has held progressively complex positions in management and operations including General Manager at JG Media, Vice President of Operations at GasPedal and SocialMedia.org (acquired by FiscalNote), Director of MBA Programs at Texas State University and Director of Operations & Strategic Initiatives in the MS Programs Office at The McCombs School of Business at UT Austin. His diverse background across different industries provides a unique perspective for successful leadership and management.
He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses and has teaching experience with both traditional/face-to-face instruction as well as synchronous and asynchronous virtual platforms. While not a teacher by formal training, it is something he finds meaningful and enjoys doing. Matt’s courses have been highly rated by students with his last MBA-level course receiving an overall rating of 4.8/5.0 (234 students enrolled, 64% participated in course evaluation survey).
In 2010 Matt founded MarketingLogic which is an active, boutique marketing consulting business focusing on medical and dental professionals in private practice. He has also served on numerous boards and has served multiple terms as treasurer of two of them.
Matt lives in Georgetown, Texas, with his wife of 20 years, Tiffany, and their two sons. In his spare time—of which there isn’t a lot—he enjoys fishing with his sons, trimming trees, tending to their small flock of chickens, and the occasional motorcycle adventure.
